With modern technology, it's about time RFID, portables scanners etc were used to ensure that a bag's location is known every step of the way, so the airline are the first to tell *you* it isn't arriving and not vice versa.

Couriers tend not to lose packets, and if they get delayed their location tends to be known. There is no excuse for airlines to do so.
