This can also be confirmed by using the online booking engine, as it shows routings through India for Asia 1 or 2 awards. This has always been the case since mini-RTW routings first came out. I remember having to verify visa requirements for India trying to book an Asia 1 reward 2 years ago, connecting with SQ.
The agent I had on the phone today was very good. She immediately noticed that my existing itinerary wasn't valid and shouldn't have been booked in the first place (point of turnaround/open-jaw issue). I think if she was supposed to collect extra miles she would have done so. Also, I pulled up an itinerary on the aeroplan site a couple of years ago that went to Asia 1 with a transit through Cairo and it was Asia 1 points. I was never sure if that was a glitch though.
