Part 1: ORD-DUS-FRA (continued)

Here's D-ABTH going off to FRA

Old F 744. The 747-8 being deployed to ORD in future would be a great draw for me to fly back to ORD... But not the customs & immigration clearance.

At about 4.30pm I head off towards Concourse B. LH 437 boards from Gate B16 and is operated today by D-AIGV, an A340-300 that is equipped with FlyNet:

Sat in the Concourse B United Club until the call for boarding was made by the Lufthansa agent in the Club. In contrast with the First Class Lounge, the Concourse B United Club was way more packed.

But well. I board, and I get to board from Door 1L. You know that kind of feeling when it's your first flight in First Class? Boarding from Door 1L instead of the usual Door 2L? And that kind of feeling when you're flying an aircraft type for the first time? OHMYGOODNESS. Yup, my first flight in an A340-300!

Legroom from Seat 2A:

Plus, I have 5 windows to myself. Oh the luxury.

Our dear FA Ms H and the LH roses:

She speaks with such a lovely British accent! (Or at least to me, it does sound British...)

Safety card for the A340-300:

Pre-departure nuts and Laurent Perrier 2004 champagne:

Ms H: "would you like anything to drink, say water or..." Me: "Champagne?" Ms H: "Oh yes, champagne!" What a delightful FA she is. Not like an SQ FA, but the German FAs are also pretty good in their own way! Definitely wanting to fly LH again, though perhaps not in Y

Pyjamas were handed out, oh so comfortable:

Unfortunately the, first class lavatories on the 343 are not that comfortable for changing into the pyjamas...

Shoe storage:

The load was 3/8 in F today. Very good. I could charge my electronics at Seat 2D and sleep in Seat 2A. Took off from ORD at 6pm, and we were off to DUS! Many trip reports comment on how long the takeoff roll for an A340 is, and oh my goodness IT IS LONG. Not like a 777 or a 767 (which are aircraft types that I'm more used to flying).

Dinner service starts once we're safely up in the air at cruising altitudes, and menus are handed out:
Interestingly, a lady seated in C asked the other F flight attendant (Mr K) before takeoff about meals because their ticket didn't mention anything about meals served on LH, to which he replied "oh, we will serve meals. It might be too much and you might ask us to stop serving! "

Me being a "growing boy" (sideways, that is), decides to go for all the appetizers, the salad, the cod main and the 2 desserts while skipping the cheese, because I'm not a big fan of cheese. First up: Hot towel. Nice rose petal.

A glass of ginger ale:

Amuse bouche:

No idea what it is, but it sure tasted pretty darn good! Something with coconut I think.

Butter. No "First Class" imprint on it, contrary to other photos I've seen:
(Saw it on LH712 ex-FRA, perhaps the imprint is only ex-FRA and ex-MUC?)
