Just curious as I have not done any hotel redemptions using points yet. From experience I've only done using free airmiles for air tixs and they usually incur some fees and taxes--so sometimes the air tix can be either cheap or very expensive (ex. BA with their very high fuel surcharges, which sometimes can be more expensive than booking online using cash instead of "free" airmiles).

What kind of fees or taxes are associated with using points for free hotel stays and how expensive can it add up to?
