I understand you can check baggage right through to Vancouver from EDI as the connection time is less than 24 hours.

We will be carrying 2 bags each.

Does anyone know if we can check 3 bags right through and pick up one at LHR - to save lugging 4 suitcases on the 423 bus to the Sheraton hotel... or is it all or nothing?
The alternative is to check your two bags each as you said but pack your overnight things into a carry-on size bag; take this bag as carry on EDI-LHR, use it for your o/night at LHR but then when you get back to LHR in the morning check this bag in for the flight to YVR (as you won't need your o/night things once on the plane).

So you're checking 2 bags in each EDI-LHR-YVR plus one extra LHR-YVR. That will definitely be OK.
