IMHO, that is diabolically poor behavior from BA CR. I hope BA can track who these reps were who kept changing goalposts and making up rules.
I have the name of the lady I dealt with, that closed the investigation, and the Case ID that was initially opened, and then closed. All information is available to BA should they wish it.
I didn't put the above in my initial information, as I thought my initial post was long enough, but thought I'd include this now, as UKTravelbear's post on the Data Protection Act seemed to be relevant to what happened here.
