If I'm honest, some things sound eerily familar of trains here in Belgium. I've had times when no announcement whatsoever was made and you had to sort of guess and hope wether you were on the right train (no problem in a small station, but slightly more problematic in a 12-platform station)
Aah I suspect that in Belgium though they actually expect you to board the train. They don't in this case they actively try and discourage it hence the platform sign that says "Please stand clear the next train is not scheduled to stop here"
