I was wondering about this - if the cards has a chip but no PIN, how does it work(or what does it do) when you slide it into the handheld readers over there?

I was able to put my card in all the regular hand-held machines at restaurants etc. (not having to get it swiped instead, as with the old card). I still needed to sign, as there is no PIN, but this was not a problem. So much smoother than in the past.
