I very much agree. The thing though is that the more absurd league tables become the more people seem to ask for them. They sell like crazy, whether they are reasonably well thought or totally random. This has been so in the US or the UK for ages but I have long been fascinated by the trend towards ever more numerous league tables in France too. Officially an egalitarian system where all universities, schools or hospitals are supposed to be 'the same', you can't spend two weeks without some magazine publishing yet another 'palmares des meilleurs lycees' or 'palmares des meilleurs hopitaux'
