Interesting. So, it sounds like ETOPS, and indeed safety, are factors related to the individual company's maintenance and management, and therefore safety, rather than the airframe design certification..

Certainly the recent UK documentary on the BA 747 6y maintenance at Cardiff was not only fascinating, but immensely reassuring.
