You need to know how OW programs work.

1. Before you buy any tickets, you need to know the earning way of the program you want to credit to.

2. In OW, there is a something you can go around - booking as codeshare. For instance, AA allows almost all revenue classes to be credited into AAdvantage. So assuming the price is similar, you can in fact book the CX flight you want from AA's channel under AA codeshare flight number (but operated by CX). In this case, your miles can be credited into AA without issue.

The best thing - if you are an AA elite, you will still get your bonus miles.
