I think the biggest winner argument is that UA expects to make a mistake and not pay a penalty for cancellation 5 days later. They have an entire IT department. We get 24 hours (of which we're sleeping an average of 7-8) and have other stuff going on in our lives. If anything comes of this, hopefully its an extension of the period--maybe excepting travel within 2 weeks--during which we can cancel or change without a fee.
