Yes
Earning status the regular way - for example achieving EXP by earning 100K EQM or EQP or flying 100 sectors - during calendar 2013, you will have EXP status until 2/15, then PLT for another year and finally GLD for a year

This is correct if you are talking about a GLD or PLT challenge
but incorrect if you're talking about status earned the regular way
