On to Madrid

No lodging pics - we stayed right by the Prado in a serviceable AirBNB place. We were ready to eat.

The first night, we went to the Mercado de San Miguel for a quick pre-dinner snack - we should have just stayed there!
The market - lots of stalls with little bites to eat:

We had the baby eel pinxto:

Then off to Ramon Freixas - a rather uninspired place, especially given its two stars, though it has serious pretensions.

No pics, as I'm saving them for the next days' lunch at El Club Allard, another two star place.

The card below met us at our table:

A bowl of sauce arrived, and we were encouraged to dig in. But how?

Many courses followed - first up, liver "truffle" with rosemary smoke and foie gras shavings.

Butterfish on seaweed "glass" that you broke; it fell into warm dashi and dissolved, flavoring the broth you ate with the fish.

Deconstructed sausage and bean soup

Bacon and egg sandwich (yolk in the middle)

Duck taco (red is a dyed carrot in place of a pepper)

Desserts were awesome:
"Rum and Coke" - all ice, with a grape twist

Edible fish tank with "coral" and a chocolate mussel shell:

"Soft Boiled Egg"

The tab for each person's food was only 70 euros at Club Allard - one of the greatest deals out there for 2 Michelin stars.
