I have never had a waitlisted flight but I have not made a *A redemption yet.
What I have had on every single occasion that I have used a foreign credit card online is an inability to ticket the itinerary without manually pushing it through and my having to bend their ears over the phone or via online chat.
Perhaps this waitlisted status is a sign that they have not processed your (presumably) foreign credit card for the taxes and any additional fees.
I'd be inclined to enter avianca.com, open a chat session in English, give them your PNR and ask them wassup.
In my own defence, I have posted on all of these "LifeMiles is the best thing since sliced corn patties" threads that AV/TA back office is utter crap. I have also mentioned more than once that their IT is neolithic.
