I'm relatively new to Flyertalk so bear with me if I don't have all the terms correct etc.

I am about to start a new job with a relatively high traveling requirement (Management Consulting). Since moving to ATL, I have heard that during the week almost the entire plane is full by Zone 2 because of all of the medallion members.

Obviously as a new business traveler, I won't have status so I was curious how important it would be to try and get into the boarding queue (IE zone 2) to have room to put my carry on in the overhead. Does anyone see the bins filling up very quickly and early since ATL is a major Delta hub with lots of medallions?

I am thinking about a Platinum Delta AMEX card for the MQM's, but I wanted to hold off until January for next year's status, or at least Nov/Dec, to see if I could use the sign on bonus as a bump to FO status.

What do you all think? Do I need to get a Delta Amex (maybe gold) for the Zone 2 boarding or will it not be a big deal for the first couple of months of travel?
