the chime goes off when the landing gear goes up and the emergency exit lights go out. When they are landing the chime goes off again when the landing gear goes down and the emergency exit lights go on again.
It is just an extra signal to let the flight
attendants know how close to landing they are. If they see the emergency exit lights on they know the gear is down and they need to be seated asap.
