I've flown out of JFK on both DL and AF, but in coach; I've flown AA business class to CDG many times. The food on AF in coach was better than AA's bc.
The difference (unless there is some super special promo) in price between y and bc/fc can be gigantic, as much as $5,000 to $10,000 rt.
In any case if you do splurge I would use AF instead of DL if possible.
If you can use miles it would soften the blow.
I would fly DL J over AF J any day.
AF J hard product is just awful.
Even though many don't love herringbone seats that DL flies, it still beats the AF slanted flat any day.
AF's J hard product is now two generations behind it's competitors and they include even the US carriers.

I would be very interested to learn how to get a First Class (or even a Business Class) TATL RT award for only 50K Delta Sky Miles.
