What do two stripes mean on regional F/A?

On a (delayed) ERJ flight IND-IAH last Saturday the FA, a young man, had on more of a white "pilot shirt" and black pants and two solid straight stripe epaulets. I know RJs don't have pursers i am just curious as to what that means (it was Newark based regional crew).
Do they have new pilot hires do cabin training or something?
I' m a commercially rated pilot (never for airlines or ATP mind you) and I know many a flight school uses two stripes and FEs used to in some cases but I've never seen it at a regional. Again, just curious and I never had the chance to ask on the plane.
