I was looking at some Canadian passport application forms and I saw that there is an option for a Canadian not to include his/her "place of birth" in the passport.

What would happen if a person born in the middle east wanted to travel via the US to a third country and before going on the trip applied to have his named changed to an East Indian name and have the passport office leave out the "place of birth" on the passport?

Or what would have happened if the Canadian man born in Syria went to the nearest Syrian Consulate to "renounce" his Syrian citizenship before going through the US to a third country? (and have a letter from the Syrian Counsulate saying that he renounced his citizenship).

Another note:

My mother was born in China (also has Hong Kong residency status) and when she sent to Hong Kong, she went to the local government officials to "declare" her "change of citizenship" (equivalent to having renounced her "Chinese" citizenship and claim to be Canadian) so that she would be entitled to consular protection by Canadian officials in case anything gone wrong while she was in Hong Kong. (if she did not go through such procedure, she would be considered a Chinese national while in Hong Kong and would not get any consular protection from Canadian officials [even if the Canadian authorities tried, the Chinese officials would prevent it])
