I disagree on this.

Exit lighting clearly is a safety issue. One might think it is minor and not going to matter, but safety is just 1000's of details, almost all of which are minor in theirown.

To the OP, by all means write the letter you describe, but make it an email. DL may not "owe" you anything, but they could well hand out some SMs for the delay.
