I disagree with almost everything said.

The rooms are not great. Over the course of a month, I stayed in 2 different rooms for the BNG promo + 2 rooms for the kids and none of the Sleep Comfort remotes worked. As someone else said, the only view you will get is of the highway or a crane on the SMU campus. The further you are from the elevator, the worse signal you will get for the wireless. Twice I got a room at the end of the hall and couldn’t connect. As I walked with my iPad to the elevator, the signal strengthened. This was on the 4th and top floor respectively.

The hotel is going through extensive renovations. So the lobby is extremely small and the pool is shut down. They don’t mention this on their website despite the fact that renovation has been occurring for months. (Starting in March I believe) Don’t get me wrong, the hotel NEEDS renovation due to age. But that doesn’t help you staying at it today.

Getting in/out of the hotel is also a challenge. It’s right off the service road on 75-Central. If you miss the turn in, you’re in for a couple of miles backtracking. Or, if you take the backstreets, you will hit some of the longest stoplights in Dallas. The exit forces you to travel north on the service road and downtown Dallas is to the south. Arriving from the north is a little trickier as it’s tough to gauge which exit you will need to take so that you can backtrack to the hotel. (Take Mockingbird) I live in Dallas, have been to the area numerous times and still had trouble.

The staff is forgettable. They are mostly college aged kids. I saw an older gentleman once when I passed through the lobby. None really went out of their way to welcome you. A smile would have been great.

Location-wise, other than getting in/out of the hotel itself, is good. If you are visiting SMU, you have decent access. There is plenty to eat/drink if you head down University to Greenville Ave. You can even do a little shopping at Central Foods if you want. It’s about 5 miles to downtown Dallas or Uptown. Northpark Mall is also pretty close.

I’ve stayed in much worse hotels, but it definitely won’t knock your socks off. Considering that Radissons are the de facto “upper tier” of Club Carlson’s U.S. properties, that’s a shame. (Sans the Radisson Blu in Chicago) I've found that the Country Inn was nicer. I really want to like Club Carlson beyond their generous promos.
