No Change Allowed to a domestic flight connecting to an int'l departure?

We called to see if we can take an earlier flight from a hub to a hub in order to give us more time at hub #2 before taking an overseas flight.

I was told by the GS desk that this is not permitted. I was also told that we can't fly standby either.

Is this true? The agent was very nice and cordial so it wasn't related to SHARES or at least I don't believe it was.

If anyone has experience with this, please let me know. Thanks.
