I was born in India to parents who worked for airlines. I spent my childhood following my dad on postings to the UK and Australia. I went to college in India, USA and Canada. For the last 7 years, I have been living in Ghana and for the first 5 years of that was also based in the UK, Germany and South Africa for various lengths of time.
I have an apartment in Ghana, an Indian passport, a British mobile number, a Canadian drivers license and a US credit card. The biggest problem I have with this is how to answer when someone asks me "Where are you from?".
My best piece of advice to anyone considering this is to identify the small stuff that makes you happy in life and ensure that it is available at your chosen re-location. It could be something seemingly insignificant like live NFL broadcasts or Cherry Coke, but their sudden absence could make a difference to your quality of life. Work is work and doesn't really change wherever in the world you go, but it is really the small stuff that makes a difference whether you enjoy life, tolerate life or move back home in a few months.
