Security Theater is called that for a reason. Even back when they only had plastic silverware on board, you would still get handed a beer bottle in first.

Be thankful that they identified a potential forbidden item and correctly cleared it since it met the criteria for not being hazardous. Don't try and look at anything else in the situation. We take much more on board every day:

Umbrellas, belts, fountain pens, luggage handles, pc screens, service trays, bottles, soda cans, magazines, rulers, wheel axles, under-wires, credit cards, rings, necklaces, shoestrings and the list goes on.
