There are some gains from fleet commonality, but there has to be a limit, no? I mean, DL has more A320-family planes than AS has planes in their entire fleet and as many of the type as B6. If training, scheduling, and servicing a 120+ plane fleet were so uncompetitive, then how do AS or B6 pull it off?
I remain a bit confused as to how splitting an order, as AA did, would net the lowest possible price, but I don't think DL should be overly concerned about fleet commonality as long as each order is for more than a handful of planes.
