If you can't select a premium seat then I assume you aren't silver+. If there are EC seats available it shoudl let you select them on line and allow you to pay for them so it's possible all the EC are sold. I am surprised your seats haven't been assigned yet, but at check in, I am pretty sure you can select a premium non-ec seat, but I wouldn't plan on finding 3 seats together.
I would be very surprised if Delta would give you three seats in EC. If EC are the only seats available, I would hope Delta would give those seats to a GM member before anyone else.
