we fly from MIA-KOA every year for the past 4 years connecting via HNL so that we get the nicer F seats from DFW->HNL. then short 30 mins to KOA.
THe whole trip is about 11-12hours and honestly it aint that bad. I would just get it over with and save you a luggage shuffle after 1 night in HNL.
