I really don't believe that passengers were ever in danger. Definitely both needed to be fixed but I don't think its anywhere near as severe as the FAA tries to make it out to be. The $1 million fine seems a little outrageous for the offenses but what can I say, nothing with the FAA or US government surprises me anymore. Hopefully the $1 million can go towards getting a new air traffic control system in place but that would make too much sense....
Not sure I agree. If you were caught driving on an empty highway with a broken tail light, there would be a fine. You continue to drive with that headlight for a year and ignore the fine, your license would eventually be suspended. If caught again, your car could be impounded. Is that too severe? Do the ends justify the means even though no one got hurt?
We live in a system of rules and regulations. Believe me, I drive over the speed limit as much as any other person. But when a cop is right behind me, I heed that 55 mph sign. To speed at that time would be blatently ignoring authority, which seems like Delta decided to do.
