My husband got the same on AA/JAL. We always seem to score it right after the holidays for the next year. Last year I got a r/t SIN for $850 (but that was CO before the dreaded W fares, and I had to sit in E+ NRT-SIN).
Of course planning that far ahead isn't easy!
(also, leaving from a non hub like DFW helps. When I lived in NM I could fly from ABQ for sometimes 2/3 of the price than starting my trip in IAH, even tho I had to change planes there anyway)
