Getting off is often a free for all especially on a low J 747. I see the potential issues of seat blocking as impacting more people in a much bigger way than the other issues you raise.
Priority boarding and baggage (which does work more often than not IME) affect every non-status pax on the plane, Lounge access costs BA money which could be used to provide cheaper fares or provide a better service to all PAX. Seat blocking would affect 1 or 2 PAX per flight who have no idea they would have had a free seat next to them without this policy. It equally helps a few non-status pax who may find they now have a free seat between them an a GCH, lucky them!
