Speaking personally it's not because this is how I
would like BA to behave, but because I am realistic about how BA
does behave. BA is a big airline which transports many (how many I do not know and don't care to estimate) First Class passengers every day. This number includes a ton of upgrades and people flying relatively cheaply on miles / Tesco redemption bookings too.
BA is not a boutique operation that drives people from their homes to the airport and back, drives their passengers from the terminal to the aircraft and provides an ongoing concierge service when their passengers are dumb enough to pick up someone elses' bag. Perhaps if it flew a couple of hundred F pax a day on average fares of £10,000 it could, but it doesn't.
I accept that and therefore do not blame the corporation in this case.
