Being serious for a minute, I still struggle with how people can pick up the wrong bag. I watch people in wonder at the carousel who take the bag off the conveyor, get out their reading glasses, inspect the bag as if it was a lost child, read the tags, pick it up, put it down and then decide after all that, that it isn't theirs and put it back on the belt. How did these people actually ever manage to get out of the house?
It happens every now and then - once to me even. A passenger had the exact same bag as me, had a "club world" name tag on it, and even had the "heavy" tag I had attached to mine on that flight. I snagged it off the belt, and luckily wanted to put something into the outside pocket of it right away. When I opened that pocket, it was clear it belonged to someone else. Had I not needed to do that, I would have been the OP (though I would have returned the bag at once)
Ever since then I've obsessively checked the name tags on the bag and done the scenario you describe here
