I _never_ check my Rimowa! I have the small Rimowa roll-aboard that will fit even on the smallest international overhead compartments. I like to use it because I've seen folks try to squeeze their bags in the overhead with such force that it crushed the contents of soft bags. On a day or weekend trip, my clothes and laptop go in it.

The bag is costly enough that I don't think checking it is a good idea. It may attract the wrong kind of attention.
