As for all the armchair lawyers (especially when they quote Wikipedia as the legal basis for their opinion

), I respectfully suggest leaving it to professionals to define to what extent, if any, the OP's behaviour is criminal or merely negligent. It's always hilarious to see people jump to all kinds of conclusions based on an isolated quote (often from Wikipedia

) and engage in "interpreting" the law.

In reality of course, the law needs to be read in its entirety and with precedent in mind. Often, terms are specifically defined in law to have a certain scope and meaning and to read it as a general piece of prose is simply flawed and just doesn't get you anywhere.
From a purely moral and citizenship perspective, my view is that the utter selfishness of the OP's attitude is highly deplorable. I'd be interested to hear from real lawyers

whether or not the OP has a civil duty of care with regard to the bag they picked up in error and towards its owner?
This will be my forth (and last?) post on the matter, just in case I am singled out by the
45128 police
In my original post, way back at 7, I pointed out to the OP that "
You've made an error, if I were you I'd go to Heathrow - if I was the Madrid passenger I would want to know why you had kept my bag for so long."
Since it was early in this epic I didn't know whether the moral compass of the majority would be with me (which is subsequently seems to be) and therefore, for a bit of fun and to try and get the OP to look at things from a different angle, quoted the Wikipedia definition of Theft. I could have quoted the Theft Act but firstly I couldn't be bothered looking at the detail, and secondly I don't think that it would have made my point as well, namely that
ohmark's view of the world (where has he gone BTW - is he on the tube to LHR?!) could be construed very differently by someone looking at the situation from a different angle (probably someone sitting in Madrid without a suitcase

).
Therefore, my dear
MNManInKen I think we are agreeing that "
The attitude of the OP is clearly outrageous and I hope that he or she will by now have come to their senses.
" and I hope that you can understand I was only quoting that by that, as I called it, "
not-always-infallible website Wikipedia" to make a point.
I rest my case
