Skype (or any other forms of VOIP) is good for calling the US cheap from overseas if you have good wifi signal. I think the key is getting good wifi signal as many airport lounge wifi networks get quite crowded with resultant limited bandwidth. My experience is mostly with the LHR T5 GF lounge, but have experienced the same at international AC lounges as well.
