Flying on some ropey old 737-100 / plane with more than one letter held together with duct tape flying from one place to another in Indonesia on an airline that is certainly not part of any alliance (Sriwijaya / Merpati / Batavia and many now departed) and getting the lovely smiles followed by nervous anticipation from the inevitable young pretty stewardesses that the appearance of a bule on board means they will have to do the safety announcements in English as well as Indonesian.
Without resorting to stereotypes it's hilarious and worrying and equal to hear the pre-flight safety announcements in completely incomprehensible broken English, not helped by a broken 30 year old PA system.
Fortunately the safety cards are always present and in good working order (possibly never used?) and i'm guessing as they are provided by the manufacturer have perfect English.
Actually, hated is a strong word, and who am I to quibble at someone elses lack of language skills?
