International to international flight? If so, I think your bags will be transferred, especially if it's the same airline, but you should confirm with them. If international to domestic, you need to get your bags after Immigation, go through Customs and take your bags to a transit desk (outside security). If domestic to international, your bags should be transferred, but you may have to exit security to collect your boarding pass at the airline's check-in counter.
