If the fare-bucket on the next flight is available, that the OP originally purchased on original tight-connection, DL needs to step-up and just move the OP to the next flight. For DL, the upside is so high (pr), and the down-side so low (same bucket, next flight), that to not accomodate is self-destructive to DL.
