The first time I traveled to Europe, I took far too much stuff--carrying a heavy suit case up steps, hills, etc. is NOT much fun.
I came across a note in Europe on $5 a Day (sent in by one of the readers, directed at first time travelers): "make a list of the bare minimum you think you can get by with and take half of that".
