MP Explorer Card, IAD-NRT award travel, and UA-booked Cruises

So I signed up for the UA MP Explorer Card after seeing a targeted 65k Bonus Mile offer instead of the usual 40k, and I have 2 questions.

1. Anyone have experience with Saver vs. Non-Saver availability from the Northeast US to Japan in April/May (avoiding Japan's Golden Week and our Easter/K-12 school spring break weeks)...or September/October? If you're able to book many months in advance? Do saver seats get gobbled up right away? Any advantage to EWR vs. IAD, or into NRT vs. HND vs. KIX vs. FUK? Ideally we'd want to leave on a Saturday.

2. Anyone have experience booking cruises through UA? I've been contemplating a cheap cruise next year and UA's site has the 6-nighter I've been thinking of for $359/person (plus tax) and earning 6,000 award miles (double the normal 3,000 for using the MP Explorer Card). On the surface that seems pretty lucrative, 6 cents/mile even if they're just award miles. Are these awards per person or per cabin? Any other critical tips for booking cruises through UA?

Thanks!
