Qantas do have an interline agreement with UA, but...

As of about 2 years ago Qantas will not interline with non-OneWorld airlines if the booking it not on the same ticket. For the first few months of this policy some people (myself included) had success by asking them to do it anyway, but for at least the last year I haven't heard of anyone getting them to do it - with the normal claim being that "the computer won't allow it".
