sorry, but one particular SPG prop kinda cheats:

Hotels conspire to flout 'green' rules
June 29, 2012 1:00 am

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc have agreed on an international-standard carbon-footprint praxis for all their hotels.
Less publicised is a groundbreaking local "environmental buddying" initiative. Take, for example, the St Regis Hotel Bangkok, managed and operated by Starwood. This carbon-positive five-star establishment has apparently "borrowed" its 10 per cent green area, required by environmental law, from across the road, from the Four Seasons Hotel, where the grass truly is greener. This pawn-the-lawn, pledge-the-hedge scheme has enabled the St Regis to grab a larger-than-usual floor area ratio, as regulated under the building control law.
How spiffingly decent of the Four Seasons. This could be a first, where two international brands conspire against international environmental ideology, potentially compromising (carbonising?) their own respective brand value in the process.
And is any of this botanical neighbourliness legal, or am I barking up the wrong tree here? Do legalities even matter when it comes to the common good? After all, "this is Thailand", and who genuinely cares a twittering dickybird about the urban environment? Cue for song:

When it comes to the law, Just knock on a door. So, the Four Seasons said, "Yes, let's get into bed.
"Have some of our green, And the road in between. Forget about zones, And residents' moans."
Then Starwood retorted: "Phew, that problem's sorted. What a wonderful ploy - Use the codes like a toy.

"Make all those old fools, Think we play by the rules. For our space is so tight, And the money's in height.
"Ignore human need, Let's respond to our greed. Till death us do part, We're both in it for baht.
"The investors will pay, And our guests will still stay. As long as we're 'seen' ... Environmentally clean."

I usually travel Monday-Thursday and at least once I leave the 'Do not disturb' sign so the maid don't have to clean / make my room. I am just using the room to sleep, so why bother her spending extra-time doing hard labor for something I would barely appreciate.

On top of that, hotels spend thousands of dollar on laundry. What an aberration to clean a towel after 1 use. Even if I leave the towel on top of the shower, the maid often picked it up and replace it with a clean one.

@:-) So just to say: Marriott, let's make a win-win situation. Give me extra points for 'being green' and not making my room every day. And I will help you save a lot of money.
