Not sure if you can redeposit for $0 within 24 hrs of booking,if you can thats the way to go. then start over and make sure you have Passengers set to 2 , that way you will know there are at least 2 seats on the same flight
I would also have 2 different browers opened and logged in to each acct per each browser. Book the 1st tkt and chose pay via Western Union, then book the 2nd tkt once done ,return to the 1st tkt and chose to pay via credit card
If it was me I wouldnt wait hoping another seat opens just in case it doesnt, or leave it as is and see if you can get a tkt taht will have you getting in apx the same time as your father does but that means not being on the same flights. If you do this have plans in place what should be done if either one is really delayed in arriving
