I have a few questions and can't seem to find the answer.
My wife and I are arriving in MIA on Lan from SCL. It arrives early morning 5:55am. We have a connecting flight on AA to LAX that departs at 8:25 am.
Lan arrives at concourse J, is immigration done at the same building and spits you out at concourse J or does it exit some where else?
Once you have collected your bags at customs and exited, is there an AA counter in J concourse to drop off the bags for the connection? If not do I have to carry all our bags to concourse D to check them in?
Any tips to speed the transfer process once we have exited customs?

Immigration is done at J. You will have to carry your bags from J to the AA terminals and check in there, or drop your bags there, whatever may be the case. AA is always busy in MIA but you should not have any problems getting it all done provided the flight from SCL gets there on time. Being Platinum you shouldn't be worried about the bags making the connection either. There is usually not a lot of CBP agents at J that early in the morning but it is definitely way faster than going through the AA terminal immigration place. Just make sure you are seated towards the front of the plane so you can deplane fast and try to get through customs fast. Bags out of J usually come out really fast too.
