One difference of course - using the RCA cable means anything that you can play on your device can display on your screen. Using the USB cable (if it is supported) can only play formats supported by the AVOD system.
My understanding is that the USB connection does 2 things:
1) Charge up your device in many cases
2) Use a "picture display" functionality, so you can visually scan a set of JPGs on your camera/laptop (etc) via the big screen.

I think that's it, unless perhaps someone knows better? What is a bit poor is that only the first option is in the print-out, the second functionality of photo display, is described on the AVOD menu itself.
