Looking for some info about booking a Lufthansa flight.
Some background- flying from EWR to Gdansk, Poland- a business trip which will be reimbursed.
Dates are not firm- but I believe them to be 8/23 evening to 8/31 afternoon.
I would like to earn the maximum miles, but not take advantage of the company that is paying for this- I’m looking for the shortest and least expense trip.
Found a Lufthansa flight that works great- but I am new to booking with Lufthansa.
(I was a OnePass earner, now a Mileage Plus account holder.)
Are you looking to fly Economy Class or Business?
Do I open a new Lufthansa mileage account? Or use my existing Mileage Plus account when I book?
Assuming this is a one-off flight, stick with MP. No reason to join a new FF program, as you'll end up with not enough miles to use later for awards/upgrades.
Do you have status with UA?
Should I pay with my Sapphire card or my United MileagePlus Explorer card?
This is a personal preference. I don't see why to use one over the other, especially since none of the travel will likely be on UA.
I have lots of MileagePlus miles- is it worth it to upgrade?
Again, this is a personal preference. Usually, the best value of miles is booking premium cabins, and not upgrading tickets. Of course, you can if you want, and get a higher level of service. If you're flying Coach but want to be more rested, upgrading to Business Class may be worth it.
Can Miles and More be transferred to MileagePlus—and vise versa?
No. (There are websites that do enable transfers, but they're not worth it because of the fees/dilution they charge.)
Thank you in advance
No problem!
BTW, here's the chart of mileage accrual for MileagePlus on Lufthansa-operated flights:
