Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a driver on Samui? Someone that can be booked in advance for rides to/fr airport or to/fr Chewang-Conrad. Assuming that would be cheaper than Conrad car, but more expensive than taxi.
When I and the wife were there in January the taxi's at the airport lit up when we said Conrad. And then they promptly demanded 3000THB. As the rental car is less than half that per day, you can guess how quickly that thing paid for itself.

The haggling business is the only thing that can get tiring, and my policy with taxi's is never to haggle for one. It's meter only or I travel by another method.

Thai rent a car has a counter at the airport, and they will also come out to the Conrad (or anywhere else).

I've rented a car in Phuket which I returned in Krabi, rented one in Koh Samui which I also returned in Krabi, and rented one in Bangkok that I returned there again.

Very easy at all times.

As a side note, there is a little resort that is further down the road from the Conrad (come out of the long driveway and turn left) which has excellent food. The other resort that's down from the Conrad on the right is decent for drinks, but all the food I ate there tasted overcooked and dry.
