The "bmi" entry is much preferable IMHO, but you can use it with any ticket. I use it for my EI trips, and head down to the GC lounge.
I always use this entrance in T1, usually with EI, it is almost always a very painless experience.
Although the BAA plastic-bag-dragons can be quite pushy...."SIR. Take OUT your plastic bag NOW"....for God's sake calm down dear, I'm not even through the boarding pass check yet!
