Really? Even in the UK (home of some very expensive rail fares) air travel is normally more expensive than rail. Bus...megabus will transport you hundreds of miles for less than a tenner.

You also missed the outcry as various train companies have shrunk their F&B offer. Look at East Coast and their woeful at seat offering.
